TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Who you're contracting with

These terms are an agreement between you and Science of Rowing, LLC, a Kansas limited liability company, registered at 4601 E Douglas Ave, STE 150, Wichita, Kansas 67218, USA (“Science of Rowing”, “we”, “us”, “our”). They cover your use of scienceofrowing.com and our paid membership service.

By using the website or signing up for membership, you accept these terms. If you don't accept them, please don't use the site.

Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to use this site or hold a membership. By using the site you confirm that you are.

Membership and billing

Membership tiers, prices, and trial periods are listed on /membership. At the time of writing:

• Free trial: 10 days full access. A payment method is required to start. Unless you cancel before the trial ends, it automatically converts to the monthly plan ($15/month).
• Monthly:$15/month, billed monthly via Memberful + Stripe.
• Annual:$150/year, billed annually.

Subscriptions auto-renew at the end of each billing cycle. We send a reminder email before annual renewal. You can cancel any time from your account and cancellation stops the next renewal so you keep access until the end of the current billing period.

Refund policy

Free trial: the trial costs nothing. Cancel before day 10 and you pay nothing.

Monthly memberships:we don't pro-rate or refund partial months. If you cancel mid-month you keep access until the end of that billing period and the next charge is skipped.

Annual memberships:we'll refund the unused portion of an annual membership within 30 days of purchase on request, minus the equivalent of the first month at the monthly rate ($15) and any payment processing fees.

After 30 days, annual memberships are non-refundable but you can cancel renewal at any time and keep access through to the end of the paid period.

What you get with a paid membership

Active paying members are granted a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-commercial licence to access and read the member-only content on the site for as long as their membership is active. The licence ends automatically when your membership ends.

You may:

• Read articles, listen to podcasts, view infographics, and download member-only PDFs for your own use.
• Print or save individual articles for offline reading on your own devices.

You may not, without our prior written consent:

• Share your login with anyone else (each membership is for a single person).
• Republish, repost, or share member-only content publicly or with your team / club / federation.
• Use any part of the site for commercial purposes, including reselling content, integrating it into a paid coaching service, or training machine-learning models on it.
• Scrape or systematically download content via automated means.

Group / federation / institutional licensing is available. Email joe@scienceofrowing.com if you need to share content with a team.

Intellectual property

All content on the site, including articles, podcasts, infographics, artwork, brand marks, and software, is owned by Science of Rowing or its contributors and is protected by US, UK, EU, and international copyright and trademark law. Nothing in these terms transfers ownership of any of it to you.

Cited research papers and source studies remain the property of their respective publishers and authors; we link to them under fair-use principles for commentary and review.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• Attempt to gain unauthorised access to the site, member accounts, or our infrastructure.
• Probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of the site without our prior written permission.
• Send automated requests at a rate that interferes with normal use of the site by other members.
• Use the site for anything unlawful, abusive, defamatory, or harassing.
• Upload or transmit malicious code, viruses, or anything that could damage the site or other users' devices.

Security research conducted in good faith is welcome. See our contact page to report a vulnerability before public disclosure.

Account suspension and termination

We may suspend or close your account, with or without notice, if you breach these terms, or if Memberful / Stripe charges back a payment fraudulently. We'll tell you why and give you a chance to fix it where the breach is reasonable to fix.

You can close your account any time from your account page or by emailing us.

Service availability and changes

We make a reasonable effort to keep the site available and running well, but we don't guarantee uninterrupted access. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the service at any time. Where a change materially reduces what an active paying member is paying for, we'll either restore the feature or refund a fair share of the period that follows.

Health and exercise disclaimer

Science of Rowing publishes evidence-based commentary on rowing research. Nothing on the site is medical advice or a substitute for individual coaching, medical advice, or diagnosis. Consult a qualified healthcare professional before starting any new training programme, especially if you have a medical condition or injury.

Rowing and rowing-related training carry inherent physical risks. By acting on any information published here, you accept responsibility for your own safety and you release Science of Rowing, its editors, contributors, and partners from any claim for injury or loss arising from following the published material.

Warranties and liability

The site is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties (express or implied), including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability to you in connection with the site or your membership, in aggregate, is limited to the total fees you paid us in the twelve months immediately before the event giving rise to the claim. We are not liable for indirect, consequential, special, or incidental damages, lost profits, or loss of data. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud.

Third-party links and services

The site links to third-party websites (research papers, partner discounts, podcast platforms, social media). We don't control those sites and we're not responsible for their content, privacy practices, or availability. Including a link is not an endorsement.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The “updated” date at the top of this page reflects the last revision. Material changes (refund policy, governing law, liability) will be notified to active paying members by email at least 14 days before they take effect.

Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Kansas, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. Disputes arising from these terms or your use of the site are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in Sedgwick County, Kansas, and you consent to the personal jurisdiction of those courts.

Where you're a consumer in the United Kingdom or European Union, this choice-of-law clause does not strip you of any consumer-protection right granted by your local mandatory law.

General

These terms, together with the Privacy Policy and the Cookies Notice, are the entire agreement between you and Science of Rowing relating to the site. They supersede any prior agreement on the same subject.

If a court finds any part of these terms unenforceable, the rest remain in effect. Our failure to enforce a particular right doesn't waive it. You may not transfer your rights under these terms; we may transfer ours to an affiliate or successor in connection with a corporate change.
